Frankenstein

Frankenstein is Mary Shelley’s groundbreaking Gothic novel about Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist whose ambition leads him to create life from dead matter. Horrified by the being he has made, Victor abandons his creation, setting in motion a tragic chain of loneliness, rejection, revenge, and suffering. The novel explores responsibility, scientific ambition, isolation, morality, and the consequences of judging others by appearance. Through the experiences of both creator and creature, Shelley raises enduring questions about humanity and compassion. First published in 1818, Frankenstein remains a defining work of Gothic fiction and an important early influence on science fiction.
