Luz endures her mother’s death and horrible abuse as a child. A multitude of hardships and extreme poverty would seem to doom Luz to a wretched life in her Zaragoza, Mexico neighborhood.   An indomitable spirit helps Luz strive for something better, life in the United States. She barely survives her first illegal border crossing. Luz endures the painful impact of racism, and the agony of a yearlong depression in America. Adultery destroys her marriage, and she is left to raise two children on her own. How can she hope to achieve her dreams of peace and fulfillment?  Luz’s story was told as a means to encourage others, especially those who have been the victim of abuse. All human beings go through trials and tribulations. Regardless of the severity of our hardships, there is always hope for a better future.   God is always with us. But we must take steps to change our lives if we are to create a better tomorrow for ourselves. The lives of others will not be improved if we do nothing to assist them.  This book demonstrates how God worked in the life of a girl, helping her grow into a woman who brings blessings to others. All chapters begin with a scriptural verse from the Bible that is applicable to incidents described within them.   Why were the scriptures included? Sacred scriptures of many kinds are a means to finding God. They are a means to experience the peace only He can provide.   Scriptures also serve as a testament to the calling of His Spirit in our lives. God softly calls ceaselessly and gently to those who have never attended a church or read a scriptural verse.  There is light in the world, and it illuminates the darkness. My sincere desire is that this book serves as a small ray of light and of hope to others.
