Our decisions have consequences. Nations cannot make decisions so citizens make the decisions by choosing who will lead them. Robert gets to see the possible outcomes of those decisions.
One path takes Robert to a future of mindless squabbling between political parties. People don’t fear their government, worse, they have resigned themselves to political ineptitude.
One path leads to a police state. President Neely has led the nation to war around the world for resources and oppressed his people at home. But the people see a glimmer of hope in a new candidate for President. His campaign motto, “Tell me about your dreams” makes people believe that this dream slipper, Robert, is destined to lead them.
One path leads to a future of hopeful, self-actualizing citizens: political parties have learned to compromise because the people have made their voices heard and those in power need the people to keep the machine that is nation working.
Robert’s quandary, are they destinations, or the journey?
