Beschreibung des Verlags
The Gew 98 (aka Gewehr 98 or M98) is a German bolt action rifle made by Mauser firing cartridges from a 5-round internal clip-loaded magazine. It was the German service rifle from 1898 to 1935.
The iconic Gewehr 98 replaced the earlier Gewehr 1888 as the main German service rifle. It first saw combat in the Chinese Boxer Rebellion and was the main German infantry service rifle of World War I. The Gewehr 98 saw further military use by the Ottoman Empire and Nationalist Spain.
This book from 1921, published by the military surplus firm of Francis Bannerman Sons, is a general description of the German Gew 98 rifle, Kar 98A and Sniper rifle and the various types of bayonets used by the Germans during WWI. The authors gained much of this information examining captured specimens at the Springfield Armory, West Point, and the Army Supply Base at Port Newark. N. J.
