[1] There is a familiar anecdote in Sweden concerning how furious Tolkien was when he heard that in the first Swedish edition of The Lord of the Rings (Trilogin om Harskarringen, 1959-61) his then Swedish translator, Ake Ohlmark, had drawn a parallel between the trilogy and Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen.
