Everything Imaginable
To This Small Mind

I am a big green apple,
a wide eyed owl, a ten foot wave
lifting a big blue sea.

I am a monk pondering God,
praying for peace.

A red eyed alcoholic begging
for money to buy a big bottle of the cheapest
whiskey I can find.

I am a mother, a father,
a son and daughter.

A man condemned to die
in one week, pacing my cell dreading day’s first light.

I am the eye of the hurricane
calm as I blow out their lights,

A child’s doll, an over-due bill
that will not go away.

I am everything imaginable by
this small mind awaiting the cool,
calm earth where I will find eternal sleep.
