Hariri Tribunal's Expected Spark Sectarian Tensions All signs in the past few weeks indicate that a forthcoming indictment by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) into the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri will lead to higher sectarian tensions and probably sectarian violence similar to the street fighting between Hizbullah's Shiite supporters and pro-government Sunni groups on May 7, 2008. More than 100 people were killed in those clashes in Beirut and other areas. Media reports said that the STL is expected to hand down its indictment in the massive suicide truck bombing that killed Hariri and 22 others on Feb. 14, 2005 in September or before the end of the. Reports have claimed that the indictment would accuse some Hizbullah members of involvement in Hariri's murder.
