ABOUT SAMI K. HAMARNEH


Dr. Hamarneh was born on February 2, 1925 in Madaba, Jordan. He did his B.Sc. in Pharmacy in 1948 from Syria and his Masters in Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Biochemistry in 1959. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Wisconsin. He retired as Curator Emeritus from the Division of Medical Sciences at The Smithsonian Institution in 1979. Dr. Hamarneh subsequently set up the Institute for the History of Arabic Sciences in Aleppo, Syria and then worked with the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Yarmouk University in Jordan. 


In his extensive research to collect the papers in this book, Dr. Hamarneh pursued original Arabic manuscripts in libraries throughout the world during a period of nearly thirty years. 


He passed away in Washington, D.C. on December 3, 2010.
