Publisher Description

Introduction The aim of this paper is to explore the methodological challenges of researching men living on low incomes. Hitherto, research with men has concentrated on men in work, who are relatively easily accessible to researchers and practitioners through their workplace. (1,2) Given the plethora of research on men, little research has focused on researching low income and unemployed men. (3) The study was designed specifically to include the views of men concerned with food choices and eating behaviour with low-income households (defined as in receipt of non-universal benefits). Difficulties were encountered in accessing men into the sample group in this study. These problems extend to the common experience of community practitioners in their practice when trying to engage men in health promotion. (4)
