High on Polyunsaturates

George High is a junior bank manager. His wife, Penny, believes that anyone who works in a bank is a banker - and everyone knows that bankers are as rich as Rockefeller! Accordingly, she outspends Posh Spice. Their debt is underwritten by a loan from his own bank for a home extension (that has never been built!). George is on the brink of bankruptcy when a high-flying City job promises deliverance from the bailiffs; he concocts a CV for himself but then he faces a pre-employment medical examination. Only one small detail - his blood cholesterol level - stands in the way of health, wealth and happiness. In a self-help book, George discovers 'The Wonderful World of Beans'. Beans contain lectins - and lectins can magically lower cholesterol. Consuming beans to the virtual exclusion of all other food, he makes another discovery: a raised cholesterol may be a problem but the consequences of eating nothing but beans is a much bigger problem - unfortunately, one that his self-help book does not address.
