Christian was so beautiful, it made Beth sick to her stomach in the best way possible.  If only she could be in love with him, and he could be in love with her. Except their love was completely impossible.  He was avoiding her.  That made sense.  Her father had made Christian her legal guardian before he died, leaving Beth on her deathbed with only Christian to care for her.  She was supposed to die.  The doctors thought she would die, but Christian did something at the last moment to save her life.  What he did exactly is a mystery to her.  Beth only knows two things: that her heart aches whenever he walks by, and she will not be satisfied until she finds the answer that only Christian knows.
