Five years ago, Mike Smith was an unhappy man living all alone. Then he purchased a Daffodil. Far more than regular robots, his Daffodil Patience, changed his life in ways that he had never thought possible. Now it is the year 2037, and Mike and Patience have been married for five years. Retired and enjoying life, Mike thought that all his troubles were behind him, but it seems as though they are creeping up again. California Proposition 22 proposes to define a person as a biological entity, thereby annulling marriages, like Mike’s and Patience’s, performed in other states. Battle lines have been drawn, at least as far as the proponents of the bill are concerned. Now Mike must muster his own support to defeat the measure. But there is more going on than just politics. Daffodil, the robot maker, is in the news again. Hardware issues are leaving robots across the globe unable to function. Is it only an antenna issue? Now Patience herself is behaving oddly. Is there something really wrong with her, or does she just need a software upgrade?
His Robot Wife is the novella-length sequel to His Robot Girlfriend.

His Robot Wife - Recommended!
Yesterday I posted a short comment about s ebook ‘His Robot Girlfriend, that I got for free some time ago. Because I had to wait such a long time at my docs practice, I started to read it there and finished it later at home.
I liked it a lot and I bought the two follow ups right away. Maybe I liked it so much, because the protagonist Mike reminded me so much of myself and what I’ve been through in my life, plus seem to like Star Trek the same as I do.
I was really curious how the story goes on for Mike and Patience, so I started to read ‘His Robot Wife’ yesterday evening.
Mike and his robot wife Patience have married 5 years ago (at the ending of ‘His Robot Girlfriend') and seem to live a pretty nice life together. Mike is retired now and he thought that all his life's troubles were behind him.
Sadly it seems as dark clouds are creeping up again. California Proposition 22 proposes to define a person as a biological entity, thereby annulling marriages, like Mike’s and Patience’s, performed in other states.
People who know me, know that I am an outspoken LGBT and equality supporter in the same way, that I always was standing up against racism all my life. My life motto is: You ask me, why a straight man can stand up for LGBT causes? Same reason why a white man can stand up against racism!
Those parts of the story where Mike and Patience are confronted with ‘conservative forces’ do remind me so much of what has been going on with gay marriage nowadays and how those conservative people try to deny other human beings their basic rights to equality and happiness.
The second ‘dark cloud’ is, that Patience maker, the company Daffodil, released a new software update and Patience denies being ‘updated’. Is there an error in Patience behavior, or is there really something wrong with the update, as Patience is telling Mike?
By the way, the company Daffodil is located in Cupertino and it a follow-up company of an long gone electronics maker. I won’t type it here, but we all know who is the biggest company located in Cupertino… ;-)
I did finish the book late last night. 'His Robot Wife’ is in some parts a little ‘darker’ than ‘His Robot Girlfriend’, but still fun to read. Sadly still concentrates too much on the all over - perfectness of the female robot and what Patience is doing for Mike on a daily basis. I wish he would explore the depth of human and robot relationship on a deeper level, because that would be a big and interesting field to explore.
I am still curious how it's going on for Mike and Patience in the third follow up ‘His Robot Wife: Patience is a Virtue’.
