George Forbes (1849–1936) was an electrical engineer, astronomer, explorer, author and inventor, some of whose inventions are still in use. In 1873 he was appointed Professor of Natural Philosophy at Anderson's University, Glasgow,. In his lectures he advocated using electricity to power transportation. Arguably his most important work was as a supervising engineer for several pioneering hydroelectric schemes.
«History of Astronomy» was first published in 1909. The historical portions of the book are helpful in understanding the viewpoint of the astronomers who's efforts laid the foundation for astronomy. The author dealt with historical figures fairly, never taking the point of view that if it isn't modern what they found was just dumb luck. An early history, but still contains much valuable and interesting information. This book helps place in perspective what we think we know now about the great beyond!
