In recent years, we've slowly developed a fascination for hoodies. It has to do with the fact that we've seen more and more people from different spectrums of society sporting hoodies. There are a few major players in the entertainment industry and some obscure folks who have thrusted the hoodie back into the forefront of pop culture, making the hoodie white hot.

You have your rappers like Jay Z, wearing his standard grey hoodie when he's on stage performing or court side watching a Nets game. You have your pop stars like Justin Bieber & Harry Styles (of One Direction) who sports hoodies on & off stage. You have your CEOs like Mark Zuckerberg who runs the largest social network (Facebook) in the world. You have Trayvon Martin, who was an average teen until his image was thrusted into the spotlight after an unfortunate incident in Florida (search Trayvon Martin for more information). And don't forget about your Boston Bomber suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, and the infamous Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski. Every one of these people transpose a different image of the hoodie to their followers, be it fans, employees, news viewers or the general TV watching population.

Just to put it into context, here's a blurb of the hoodie's history so you can see where it originated and where it fits into today's world culture.

Hoodie History (wikipedia)

The garment's style and form can be traced back to Medieval Europe when the normal clothing for monks included a long, decorative hood called a cowl attached to a tunic or robes,[1] and a chaperon or hooded cape was very commonly worn by any outdoors worker. The hooded sweatshirt was first produced in the United States starting in the 1930s. The modern clothing style was first produced by Champion in the 1930s and marketed to laborers working who endured freezing temperatures while working in upstate New York.[2] The term hoodie entered popular usage in the 1990s.[3] [read more...]
