Hope in the Shadows

October 7th changed Israel forever. For Yael, it stopped time altogether.

On that fateful morning, Yael, a dedicated nurse from Kibbutz Nir Oz, spends agonizing hours saving lives under fire. But when the nightmare ends, her own world is shattered. Her husband and young son are gone, leaving her with grief so profoundly that she can no longer imagine a future.

Then she meets Maya and her six-year-old son, Snir.

At first, their presence offers a fragile glimpse of hope. But soon, something impossible begins to unfold. Snir recognizes places he has never visited. He recalls intimate family moments he could never have known. And the things he says to Yael raise a haunting question: How can a child know the memories of someone who is gone?

Is grief playing cruel tricks on Yael's broken mind? Or is there a connection between Snir and the family she lost-one that defies everything she understands about life and death?

To discover the truth, Yael must confront the past she can barely bear to remember and find the courage to open her heart again. But the closer she gets to the truth, the more she must question what she believes about loss, love, and the possibility of a second chance.

Hope in the Shadows is a deeply moving novel inspired by the tragedy of October 7. A story of unimaginable loss, mysterious connections, and the enduring power of love to reach us even in our darkest moments.
