It is 4:23pm in late winter when the lights go out. The clocks stop. The fridge stops buzzing. There is silence, and darkness quickly follows.

For seven years, Anna has done her best to avoid talking or even thinking about the events which led to her raising her daughter Lucy on her own. But when her mother-in-law Celia turns up with her dog Rufus in tow, being in the dark means she has no choice but to confront the magnitude of both a growing crisis and the tidal wave of her grief.
