Enter Shay Sotaro. Burned out, on job probation, drunk from dusk 'til dawn. Floating through life.

She encounters Celeste, a teenager who is on the run, banished from Benevolent, a cult-like civilization. Celeste allowed a sacred songbird to escape; now the seasonal harvest is doomed. Celeste's only hope is that it has flown to its soulmate, stolen previously by her own mother; banished from Benevolent decades before.

Celeste loses control of her powers. Shay should turn Celeste in but, instead, sees a financial opportunity. As this odd couple investigates the missing songbirds, they find themselves on a dark path and make powerful enemies.

As they learn the terrible truths behind Benevolent's banishments, it's clear that Celeste will simply be the latest casualty in a war of political and financial gain. Shay Sotaro must decide to risk everything to save the girl. Or she can let the pieces fall where they may.
