Beschreibung des Verlags
Jacob's Ladder is a thoughtful follow up to Down by the Riverside, featuring a curious and spiritual sleuth.
When her husband left her for a younger woman, Rose Franklin bought a camper and started traveling. Eventually, she put down roots in Shady Grove, a campsite along the Mississippi River in West Memphis, Arkansas, where she has lived for six months now. Since she solved the murder of Lawrence Franklin, life has been quiet: she is enjoying her new friends, life next to the river, and a blossoming romance with neighbor Thomas Sawyer.
But when Rose discovers a mysterious camper from New Mexico dead in his trailer, she finds herself in the middle of another mystery. American Indian artifacts, an ancient cultural history, and a passage to grace are at stake as Rose unravels the murder, while at the same time comes to terms with a visit from her ex-husband and her father's declining health.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In Lynn's unconvincing second Shady Grove mystery (after 2006's Down by the Riverside), Rose Franklin, who's settled in at the West Memphis, Ark., campsite since her divorce, discovers an elderly Zuni Indian man strangled to death in his camper the day after he pulls in at the campground. While waiting for the police to arrive, Rose finds a silver bracelet near the crime scene and pockets the trinket instead of mentioning it to the sheriff. Later Rose decides to return the bracelet to the scene of the crime, but rather than drop the bracelet, she hides in the camper when she hears people approaching. To her distress, someone drives the vehicle away from the campsite. This episode is symptomatic of Rose's heedless actions, as she ignores blatant clues, trusting navely when she should be more suspicious. Seasoned mystery readers will likely find Rose's feckless detecting more irritating than believable.
