Pamela believes that her enchanted hair, a gift in exchange for her mother's kindness, is nothing more than a venerated curse. When the envy and greed it attracts causes discord at Fort Daverna, her guardian has no choice but to move her somewhere else. It's in Fort Romarium that she meets the one person who couldn't care less about her rare condition.

Lagartho's direct, no-nonsense attitude fits her idea of the perfect bodyguard, yet it is this same characteristic that makes him difficult to approach.
