Beschreibung des Verlags

A multimedia interactive guide to developing practical skills for optics research.  Use as a class lab manual, an instructional tool or as an indispensable reference.

In concise, high-def videos, various skills and techniques are demonstrated and explained.  These cover topics for the novice, such as mounting and cleaning of optics, as well as for the more advanced learner, such as balanced detection, and lock-in amplifiers.

This is the streaming version.  It is a smaller download than the self-contained version, but requires an internet connection to use.  There is also a self-contained version that is a much larger file but requires no internet connection to view the videos.

Various interactive widgets let you simulate the experience of aligning a laser beam to an optical system, aligning an interferometer to get fringes, or adjust a Fabry-Perot cavity while observing the mode spectrum.  Other tools help you quickly find the Gaussian beam parameters of your laser from measured beam radii, and to calculate the position of a lens or pair of lenses to mode match a laser to a cavity.

    Very Considerate

When I know someone who immediately wants to start working on an optics laboratory, this is the book I reommend. I have shown this book to students of various stages of their studies from different countries on garvitational wave physics, and they really liked it.
Not everyone have immediate access to a real laboratory but with this book, we are taken into a virtual optics laboratory tour, and the video files in it let us have experience that can be very similar to that from the reality. Conventional books can teach us theory, and when they mention experiment, they can teac us how things should be working. But in reality things don’t work out as they should most of the time. Having seen real situations helps tremendously before you start working in a laboratory. This book gives this help, which is vital to bigginers.
For experienced researchers this book is helpful to keep being reminded on important principles in optics experiments, especially when teaching young students. This book could be of great fun for those who are not especially in the field of optics nor physics, because of many videos one can enjoy just watching.
This book is very considerate, full of education, on top of that very cool !
