63 Games. Yes, 63 Games! A massive amount for any team, but in ALL matches the Liverpool players stood up and played with pride. The pride that any player donning the glorious, beautiful Red shirt of Liverpool loves and cherishes. Albeit sadly, not always with the outcome that we faithful supporters, the players, the coaching staff and of course, Jürgen Klopp would have wished for.
We are and always will be a team of legends. That said, even legends have chinks in their armour, as we saw with the away game at Brentford late in September. My final words at full time: “That’s cost us the league!” but hoping all along however, that I would be proven wrong by my ultimate belief, love and faith in Klopp and his Troops. Two more back to back home draws with Brighton then Man City in our nemesis month of October , nevertheless proved to be more worrying .
The big plus to these negatives was our majestic stride through what, on paper, seemed like a very tough Champions League group, in our quest for another ‘Big Ears’. In the end it was almost achieved against a very average opponent. Not the usual words to describe Real Madrid, but barring the heroics of their ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois on the night…, we were in touching distance , so, so, so close!
The magnificent strides the team took, after what was a slightly disappointing December, culminating with the loss at Leicester. In the months that followed the new year, to overturn the so-called ‘huge’points deficit City had over us, was just so impressive and strong in footballing terms and showed a depth of character that many doubted.
We looked ‘Leggy’ in the last few matches of the season and unfortunately this showed in our last match, the Paris Champions League Final. To me and the millions of Liverpool supporters watching around the world, we can just say thank you for the amazing rollercoaster season that you always treat us to season, after season, after season.
Trent, Robbo, Virgil, Konaté and Alisson, in them we have a defensive line that us faithful can all trust in, and also challenge on the front foot for years to come. Klopp’s up-field plans are always flourishing. Because of this strong backbone to the team given by these wonderful players, we can strive for even more greatness.
A fond farewell , and many thanks must be said and sent to Divock, Sadio and also Takumi for what they have done for us adoring supporters and the Team… THANK YOU !
