Manar

Manar is a Sydney residential complex with over 170 years of history. It is a landmark in the inner city suburb of Potts Point - Australia's most densely populated precinct. The book is an entertaining social and architectural history documenting the three buildings and the various owners who have included prime ministers, chief rabbis, artists, rebels and ratbags. It also tells of its neighbouring buildings - The Beatles stayed next door in 1964 and the Rolling Stones across the road. Manar overlooks Australia's most significant grand private residence, Elizabeth Bay House, built in the early 1830s. This is a good read for anyone interested in architectural history and social life in early Australia. There are lots of rare photographs.
