Master Sunshine

When Lucy tears his beloved picture of elephants, Master Sunshine lifts an angry hand—then her small, sorry words bring tears of shame to his blue eyes. Can a boy who never wants to hurt anyone learn to bear the careless hurts others give him?

Frederick Alexander Norton is eight, busy caring for pets, helping in the kitchen, and bringing cheer to his family and neighbors in a country village. But beneath his sunny good humor lies a private grief: he is bow-legged, and other people’s remarks sting. After hiding his legs in loose sailor suits, he decides to face the trouble bravely and wear knickerbockers like the other boys. As he tries to make allowances for everyone else’s trials, he dreams of a village fountain where people and animals alike can drink. Can Master Sunshine turn his own heartache into a kindness that reaches the whole village?
