Middle Age: A Romance

A reclusive artist dies saving a child from the river—leaving behind a fortune in secret bonds, multiple names, and an unraveling town.

In Salthill-on-Hudson, a half-hour train ride from Manhattan, everyone is rich, beautiful, and -- though they look much younger -- middle-aged. But when Adam Berendt, a charismatic, mysterious sculptor, dies suddenly in a brash act of heroism, shock waves rock the town. But who was Adam Berendt? Was he in fact a hero, or someone more flawed and human?

Small Town Setting: In privileged Salthill-on-Hudson, the sudden loss of an enigmatic sculptor exposes the fractures beneath manicured surfaces, sending wealthy residents into secret liaisons, sudden departures, and private reckonings.
Hidden Identities: When quiet bookstore owner Marina Troy and calculating attorney Roger Cavanagh begin sorting through the artist’s estate, they stumble across forged signatures, hidden bank accounts under false names, and a lifetime of carefully guarded deceptions.
Multiple POV: From Camille Hoffmann transforming her historic home into a refuge for abandoned dogs to Augusta Cutler fleeing across the country to unearth her late friend’s Montana origins, the narrative shifts among the women and men whose lives he irrevocably altered.
Book Club Fiction: An expansive, satirical portrait of middle-aged vanity and longing, tracing how the sudden absence of one charismatic figure strips away the comfortable illusions of an entire suburban community.
