Do Egypt's interim ruling military have political ambitions? Minutes before he stepped down from power in February under pressure from a popular revolution that had been going on for weeks, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak tasked the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (the Higher Military Council), to run the country's affairs until a new civilian government is elected. But the council, which promised to run the country with the help of a civilian government it appointed until parliamentary and presidential elections are held in September in accordance with an amended constitution, may have other plans in mind. That's at least what two prominent analysts believe.
