Modern Magic

Enter the mysterious world of magic, supernatural belief, visions, dreams, and unexplained human experiences.

M. Schele de Vere’s Modern Magic explores the fascinating boundary between belief, mystery, psychology, superstition, and the unknown. Rather than focusing on a single tradition, the book surveys a wide range of phenomena that have captured the human imagination across cultures and generations.

Beginning with witchcraft and the traditions of black and white magic, the work examines the ways people have attempted to understand or influence forces beyond ordinary experience. The discussion then moves into dreams and visions, exploring experiences that have long been associated with prophecy, spiritual insight, imagination, and the mysterious workings of the mind.

Ghosts and supernatural appearances receive extended attention, followed by an exploration of divination, possession, magnetism, miraculous cures, and mysticism. These subjects reveal the enduring human desire to explain experiences that seem to lie beyond the boundaries of everyday understanding.

For modern readers, the book offers more than a collection of strange stories. It provides an intriguing historical look at how earlier generations interpreted unusual experiences and how concepts of magic, spirituality, healing, and supernatural phenomena developed over time.

The work is especially interesting for readers who enjoy examining the relationship between folklore, psychology, religion, mysticism, paranormal traditions, cultural history, and human belief. It encourages curiosity while opening a window into the intellectual and cultural world of the late nineteenth century.

Ideal for readers interested in witchcraft, occult history, dreams, ghosts, divination, mysticism, supernatural beliefs, paranormal history, and the study of unexplained phenomena. Modern Magic invites readers to explore the enduring mysteries that have fascinated humanity—and to consider why people continue to search for meaning beyond what can easily be explained.
