Lady Abigail Courtney Baldwin just killed her husband when he tried to kill her. She left England in the middle of the American Revolution. She finds herself in a nest of spies. Having no love for the British, she joins them. One of their number is her father's solicitor, Ash Thornton. Abby finds him suspicious: he's taciturn, he is friends with the English general, Clinton, his best friend is a British colonel. He's suspicious of her, a viscountess. Despite that, her father, the master spy assigns her to go with him to Washington with critical information. They are attacked on their way home, but come to believe in each other. When Abby steals a British Code Book, she and Ash must leave for his country estate. Their problems follow them.
