Newport News Shipbuilding Sets Massive Stern on Carrier Ford (Business‪)‬

Newport News Shipbuilding lowered into place the 825-ton stern of the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) in the construction drydock last week, Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc. announced. The first in the next generation of Navy carriers, the Ford will feature a new nuclear power plant, a redesigned island, electromagnetic catapults, improved weapons movement, an enhanced flight deck capable of increased aircraft sortie rates, and the flexibility for future technologies and reduced manning.
