With her life in shambles, a young woman joins a gang of rough-riding outlaws
When the ambush of a gold shipment for the army ends with the death of a Union soldier, Cordell Rogers and his ex-Confederate raiding party flee to Mexico. Cordell brings his wife and daughter, Mollie, but scarlet fever leaves him a widower, and young Mollie must grow up among his ragtag band of bandits. On her eighteenth birthday, Mollie makes a decision. She leaps on her horse, straps on a pistol, and prepares to become an outlaw.
As Mollie begins her career as a renegade, the son of the soldier killed in the long-ago raid searches Mexico for justice. His fevered quest could destroy Cordell's band of outlaws, but only if he can resist the charms of the sultry young woman who rides like a man.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Readers with burning holes in their pockets and looking for beach reading might enjoy Ryan's latest western historical romance (after Desert Storm). More discriminating folk, however, may pause and wonder if this sexually graphic tale of an unrepentant woman outlaw and a vengeful bounty hunter (with "humid eyes") is really worth their time and money. Heroine Mollie Rogers isn't bothered by moral issues; she never once considers returning stolen gold to its rightful, hardworking owners. Bounty hunter Lew Hatton is heroic, but thinks with his gonads. And, sure, the wild west wasn't a pretty place, and villains like the sadistic Texas Kid no doubt existed, but Ryan gratuitously piles on prolonged, nasty rape scenes. Enough already.
