PUBLIC ON-CALL: Save Your Physicians' Lives

An appeal to the United States' public - the strongest force for change in our democracy - to help transform the narcissistic, authoritarian, and in many instances, predatory approaches in training US physicians. As conscientious citizens, you have a duty to be on-call and save your physicians' lives. The book thoroughly informs the public and proposes strategies for accountable commitment to treat physician trainees in a humane manner by institutional leaders at US medical schools and teaching hospitals. Effective strategies include: 24-hour monitoring of trainee wellbeing while in the hospital; polygraph assessment for institutional leaders. US legislators must work with the public, their constituents, until the public’s post-call report reaches zero physician trainee deaths.
