Kathy Andrews is running from everything: a cheating ex-fiance, an over enthusiastic family and her own humiliation. When she inherits her Great Aunt's estate on Heart Island, she sees it only as a way to start over more intelligently.

Lakeland Darcy owns and operates a seaplane based on Heart and epitomizes the strong silent type and actively dislikes newcomers to the island. Ferrying paying customers provides money for flying and food.

When Kathy finds herself under a barrage of attacks, Lake finds himself drawn to the role of protector.
