Red as a Rose Is She

Complete and unabridged, with 59 full-page plates by Marianne North, Edvard Munch and David Cox. A Welsh girl engaged to a steady, devoted man falls in love with another, and the broken promise — and what it costs the man she jilts — is the book's real subject. Rhoda Broughton was called dangerous by the circulating libraries and read by everyone; her dialogue is sharper than her reputation. This edition is bound with a gallery of 59 plates of painting, among them works by David Cox, Edvard Munch and Marianne North, and includes one restored and coloured illustration.
