Mark nodded. “That’s right. Now get in your cage.”

As she walked over to the three cages she noticed there were name tags on each one. Two were empty, one was labeled Rose. She had been expected. For just a moment she hesitated before stepping into the cage. It was spacious enough, about six feet long by four wide and maybe five feet high. There was no way she would be able to stand normally inside it. That was the point, of course. There was a heavily padded bottom—a mattress really—with a pillow and a blanket in folded in the corner. The bars were heavy gauge wire—it must have been some converted animal pen. There was no way she could bend or damage the cage. It seemed safe enough—except for being a cage designed to hold her captive.

“Inside,” he encouraged her by grasping her upper right arm and slowly assisting her with the final step inside the cage. As she stepped through the door she ducked her head down, the opening couldn’t have been more than four feet tall. Mark unclipped her leash and released her into the confines of the cage. It was hard maintaining her balance with her hands fettered together so Rose sank down to her knees and caught her breath. She hadn’t realized she was holding it. Her heart stopped a moment later when Mark snapped a latch onto the door of the cage effectively locking her inside. She gasped and looked at the lock.
