As 1929 draws to a close, New York City detective Johanna Kelly is tired, body and soul. It’s not just because of her male colleagues’ bad attitudes. Soon her growing pregnancy will be revealed, and she will be fired. But until that happens, Kelly is still on the job.

A few months ago the market crashed. Now a killer stalks the city’s affluent citizens.
