Simon Magus

Have you ever read a few verses in the Bible and wondered what it would be like to be there? Have you ever wished that you had more information about the background to the specific situation or how it all played out? 

Simon was a sorcerer who lived around the same time as Jesus. His story of conversion to Christianity takes place a few years after Jesus, when Philip is preaching in Samaria. Pretty soon after his conversion, Simon clashes with Peter when he asks to buy something Peter will never sell.

This short story is Ruth Amos’ imagining of the story of Simon in Acts 8. There is some thought that this Simon from Acts went on to become Simon Magus - the source of a few heresies such as Gnosticism. Trying to figure out where the bitterness in Simon’s soul came from, Ruth imagined this backstory and how it would play out. She hopes you will enjoy the dramatisation.
