Sitting Room

There are two events going on today at Grayson manor. A garden party on the lawn to honor the late mister Grayson. And in the sitting room the young Miss Grayson is introducing her lover to the joys of public. And then he actually found her. More like stumbled really. Wandering from room to room, checking out the furniture and art, he entered a room and there she was.

Izzy could make something as simple as leaning up against the back of a couch seem lazily arrogant. He might have said the feeling of ownership she gave off was because this was her house. But it wasn’t, she had that wherever she went. Isabel’s body was long and lean, with the graceful kind of lines you would have expected to see on one of the statues in the hall. Hours spent in the gym every week went into crafting those lines. Her hair was up and her long neck looked delicate and supple. Dark brown strands pulled away and brushed at the back of the neck the way he wished he could. Facing one of the windows, the light from outside almost made her white dress translucent.

Not for the first time he thought she looked like an angel. A dirty crazy angel who was always getting him into trouble. Somehow the caveats never did anything but make him like her more. Or maybe there was another L word in there that he wasn’t ready to own up to.

She looked just as beautiful the first time he saw her. He was working another late shift and his boss had let him spend some time on the piano. It had been a while and it felt good to have real ivory under his fingers again. She walked in like a force of nature, stumbling into the place with three friends in tow. Their hair clung to them wetly, matted with sweat from dancing. There weren’t any clubs in the neighborhood but he’d heard of a rave going on that night. The restaurant was a little way out of the way for that but not if they decided to take a walk and get some fresh air. Between the sweat and the skimpy outfits the manager almost kicked them out. Then Isabel flashed some plastic and everything was good as far as the old man was concerned. If it had been cash that would’ve been a different story.
