The aristocrat August von Platen (1796-1835) is known as one of the greatest German sonneteers, but he was also a homosexual who used poetry as outlet for his love in a society that had no space for it. Presented here is a collection of Platen's sonnets, many of them love poems, translated into English by Reginald B. Cooke.
