Years earlier he had left his community and faith, having been forced from his home by his abusive father, Jacob. In town, Nicolaus soon became quite the celebrity. With his God-given gift of music, sensuous voice and looks, he became lead singer in the local rock band that he had formed with his childhood friend, Sylvain.
