Spaceship engineer Helen Mitchell knows every pitted pipe and corroded valve on the USCSS Persephone, but she doesn't know her own husband anymore. As the heavy bio-hauler begins a grueling three-month transit through a communications blackout known as the Dead Zone, Captain John Mitchell grows distant, secretive, and uncomfortably close to the ship's navigator.

But a failing marriage is soon the least of Helen's problems. A mysterious, violent madness begins to spread among the isolated crew, turning friends into deadly threats. Protected only by her own stubborn logic and a sarcastic, salvaged AI drone named Seven, Helen watches her reality unravel. Is she suffering from deep-space delirium, is her husband plotting to eliminate her, or is something else entirely hunting them in the dark?

When the ship's power grid suffers catastrophic, unexplained drains, Helen realizes the threat isn't just in their heads. Something is bleeding the Persephone dry.
