Sumerian Grammar. By DIETZ OTTO EDZARD. Handbook of Oriental Studies, vol. I/71. Leiden: BRILL, 2003. Pp. xviii + 191. $94. This book by the late D. O. Edzard presents the latest comprehensive grammar of Sumerian. It is befitting that this revered Sumerologist, who dedicated himself to and contributed so much to research on Sumerian, should have published his Sumerian grammar as one of his last works. I was just about to submit this review when the sad news of his passing reached me. I wish he could have read it and given me his criticisms. He is dearly missed. I humbly dedicate these lines to his memory.
