Gillian Bennett is a leading member of the Folklore Society, and a former editor of the society's journal, Folklore. She lectured in English Literature for sixteen years before turning her attention to folklore and oral narrative in 1980. Since then she has built up an international reputation for her work on folk belief, storytelling, traditional and contemporary legends and ghost-lore, having published extensively in leading publications across the world. Gillian is also the author of a number of other books, including Traditions of Belief and Urban Legends: A Collection of International Tall Tales and Terrors.
