The Anonymous Jury

Everyone in this room took an oath not to talk. Somebody outside it already knows every word they're about to say.

Diane Castellano didn't want to be foreperson. She wanted eleven strangers, a stack of evidence, and a clean, fast way back to the quiet life she's been hiding in ever since her husband died - a life where nothing is asked of her that she can't control. All she has to do is get twelve people to a verdict without letting anyone see how close to the edge she really is. She never planned on being the one person in that locked room who knows something is very, very wrong.

Then her phone buzzes. An unknown number. A message about what's about to happen inside a room no outsider is allowed to see - sent minutes before it happens, word for word, every time. Diane tells herself she'll report it. She doesn't. She can't stop reading. And the more she reads, the more she understands that whoever is watching that jury isn't guessing - and isn't finished.

Every juror becomes a suspect. Every kindness becomes a question. And the closer Diane gets to the source of those texts, the more she starts to realize the truth isn't waiting for her outside her front door - it's already inside it, closer than she has let herself imagine in fourteen careful, silent months.

The trial was supposed to be the easy part. Diane is about to learn that the real verdict - the one that will cost her everything - was never in that jury's hands at all.

So when the last text arrives, and it isn't a warning anymore but a confession, will Diane be able to live with who's been on the other end of that phone the whole time - or will knowing the truth be the one thing she can never take back?
