The Cambrian Vacuum

The universe is a cooling corpse—and humanity is just the mold growing on its bones.

For two decades, paleo-physicist Dr. Vesper Channing has been haunted by a terrifying truth: the universe's slow slide into entropic heat death isn't a natural law, but an engineered condition. Armed with her life's work, the Axiomatic Hull—a revolutionary shielding technology capable of maintaining local physics—Vesper leads a team of elite specialists aboard the research vessel Ostracon deep into the Boötes Void. Their destination is The Silt, a massive, impossible pocket of space where the laws of the ancient, pre-matter universe are rumored to still breathe.

What they discover defies every rule of modern science. The Silt is an intricate, hyper-dimensional ecology inhabited by "Geometric Fauna"—sentient fractals and predatory gravitational eddies moving in a precise, universal rhythm of 1.372 seconds. At the absolute center of this primordial cosmos hangs The Epitaph, an eighty-kilometer crystalline monument left behind by ancient entities of pure geometric law.

But humanity was never meant to witness the beginning of time.

During their boundary crossing, a catastrophic breach in the Axiomatic Hull begins leaking Standard Model physics into the pristine environment. To a universe that has never known decay, entropy is a highly contagious, necrotic virus. As Vesper watches the beautiful, ancient ecosystem rapidly collapse into featureless gray ash because of her presence, the ship's systems begin to fail, threatening to trigger a terminal vacuum collapse that will claim the lives of her twenty-seven crew members.

With her own body succumbing to the creeping numbness of the entropic leak, Vesper is faced with The Epitaph's final decrypted transmission: the current universe is actually a sterile, three-dimensional prison—a quarantine imposed by a tyrannical force to keep the primordial cosmos dead. Humanity is merely the accidental byproduct of that weapon.

With under thirty minutes left before total annihilation, Vesper must choose between a terrible binary: passive surrender, which will preserve humanity but permanently erase the last remnants of the original cosmos; or a deliberate core overload, unleashing a Reverse Cambrian Explosion that will liberate an infinite paradise—but render all matter-based life logically impossible.

Trapped between genocide and omnicide, Vesper has to decide if she is willing to destroy her own world to resurrect the universe.
