cia officer peter ivorson is in deep trouble. transferred to Laos from South Vietnam after a barely-failed assassination attempt leaves his nerves in tatters, ivorson is looking forward to an uneventful tour of duty in sleepy, peaceful Vientiane. his new boss, however, needs a big win to further his own career and assigns ivorson to steal the code machine from the local north vietnamese embassy, a mission at which both cia and nsa have failed for years. In addition to the impossible assignment, the usaid officer assigned to protect his cover can't stand either the cia of ivorson, and his all-time favorite agent is shot dead under his eyes. worse yet, the french-vietnamese beauty he's trying to bed just may be working for the other side. Balked and stalked at every turn, ivorsoon keeps on trying, but by the time he's waist deep in the swamp behind the nvn embasy, everyone in town, including his own boss, is out to get him. ivorson is on his own.
