THE CONSPIRACY

More than four years have elapsed since the resolution of BES, and although there is a general consensus on the accuracy of the decision made by the regulator, new documents and facts have come to light that call into question the true reasons behind that decision. In spite of the political, economic, and particularly media brouhaha the case has gathered due to several reasons that this book allows the reader to understand, the most important side to this story, until now conveniently wrongly told, has been left out.

João Gabriel, who at the time was collaborating with Amílcar Morais Pires, number two at BES, provides, in the over 200 pages of this volume, a step-by-step reconstruction of the story of the days leading to the disappearance of the bank. An account directly from the eye of the storm as nobody has had the courage to make until now.

Based on unpublished documents and unique testimonies, this book explains the reasons and the true responsibility of the Governor of the Bank of Portugal and the auditors of KPMG that have managed to go undetected until now. The contradictions, the lies and the threats that have tainted a process that is still shrouded in a cloud that the official story has not been able to disperse. Removing Salgado did not imply making BES disappear. Someone rushed into an unfounded decision and, more importantly, without considering the implications of dropping the 'atomic bomb'.

A remarkably written account that uncovers documents that deconstruct the official story repeatedly told to the Portuguese people, aptly titled The Conspiracy.
