Forty-four and single with an itinerant cat for company, Elizabeth Rubis loves living in The City and her job in public relations. She's content with the quiet life she's carved out in the bustling historic neighborhoods of one of America's greatest cities.  

But there's an evil on the wind and in the fog rolling over the streets of San Francisco. On the verge of the long-awaited and hard-fought professional success she so richly deserves, Elizabeth relents to a rare night out and comes face to face with that evil.

Kidnapped, tortured, and banging on death's door, Elizabeth is surely done for.

Elizabeth awakens to find herself in the morgue, but she's not dead.
