Laila is forced to confront a dark part of her past that she never shared with her husband. Reznik spins an interesting albeit predictable tale. The strength of her novel is in capturing the sensibilities of the late 1960s and early 1970s. This makes up for the hiccups in dramatic tension during the book's contemporary sections. Readers particularly those who remember the late 1960s will find this an entertaining read.
