Elmdale was supposed to be a fresh start-a place to lay low, to escape the relentless loan sharks, and finally rebuild their fractured family. But Simone knows from the moment they arrive that something is horribly wrong.
A thick, suffocating forest looms over the nearly abandoned streets, and the town's eerie silence is only broken by whispers of the past. For over a decade, people have vanished, their deaths swept under the rug by an administration desperate to keep its secrets buried. No one talks about the shadows that stretch too far, the figures that appear and disappear in the blink of an eye, or the feeling that something-something ancient and hungry-is watching.
