Beschreibung des Verlags

A family pedigree proposes that Sire Du Homme, a Commandeer in the Army of the Duke William prior to the invasion of England, was a forebear to The Holme family of Lancashire. The family is recorded in the 15th century as Lords of the Manor of Maghull. The family is traced from that point up to the start of the 19th century when the facts become more concrete. During this period there is much political and religious intrigue some associated with the two Jacobite rebellions. A family Bible from 1806 provided appreciable information and further research revealed, not only some details of family life during that time but also a family building business which was involved in major developments in the Liverpool area both in architectural and railway construction. Two members of the family were mayors of Liverpool and an autobiography of one of them gives insight into the social history of Liverpool during that period.
