The Keshwars from Dundee

Marjorie Rughubar, who turned eighty-two on 16 January 2012, is the driving force behind this history of the Keshwar family that begins with her parents, Sewpersad Keshwar and Elizabeth Baines. As all but one of her siblings have passed on, the story relies greatly on Marje’s recollections and does not include the stories of all her siblings.

This is not the usual account of racial conflict in South Africa. It is rather the story of members of a family who, in trying to escape racial discrimination, find themselves ineluctably drawn into its separate and unequal ethos.
